Wow, what a successful World Cycling Day it was with exciting events all over the world. Friends joined all over the globe in healthy sport cycling. The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we are planning for next year's events and celebrations.
On August 11, 1893, the first official World Cycling Championship was held in Chicago by the newly formed International Cyclists Association. For that reason and more, August 11th marks a symbolic day in the history of cycling. It came in the midst of a bicycling craze that was sweeping the world and threatening to replace the horse as the most efficient form of individual transportation.
Top wheelmen (that's what they called them back then) of the day like AA Zimmerman, winner of that first world championship, headed a parade of greats that made cycling one of the world’s most popular sports. Passion for the bicycle created the first bicycle factories and launched pneumatic tires, liberated women’s fashions, drove advertising campaigns, paved roads and gave enthusiasts a healthy glow.
Theme for 2024- "Cycling Helps You Blaze A Trail"
Each year the theme for World Cycling Day changes, and this year there is no better topic than to celebrate how the sport of cycling helps us all break barriers and blaze a trail.
Each year the theme for World Cycling Day changes and this year the theme is "How Cycling Helps you Blaze a Trail; in health, life, culture and society" with Marshall "Major" Taylor as the beacon for World Cycling Day. 2024.
Major Taylor was the greatest professional sports hero at the turn of the 20th Century and the first ever African American athlete to dominate any sport.
A PBS Documentary helps you dig in and appreciate how this man inspired a century of cycling excellence.
Theme for 2023- the "Carbon Revolution"
Each year the theme for World Cycling Day changes, and this year there is no better topic than to celebrate the "Carbon Revolution". Advocates strongly believe carbon is a game-changer. Lighter frames are important for eBikes as the battery added weight is offset by the light weight carbon. Carbon is one part of the the future because over recent years the performance and efficacy of carbon has increased. As background, the Carbon Fiber Bike Market size was valued at $3 Billion in 2021 and is projected to reach USD $5 billion by 2030, growing at an annual growth rate of 7.7% from 2022 to 2030. Technological advancements along with increased demand for high-tech material is expected to boost demand for Carbon Fiber Bikes.
Here's a carbon fiber eBike worthy of a celebration! E-bicycles are popular at present. Among them, there are many professional mountain off-road models. 4LEAF from Hangzhou, China has launched an electric-assisted carbon fiber mountain off-road bike named "Ultra". The first model is "Ultra CF M29.TK.M09", which is an all-mountain Enduro model (AM-Enduro). The name, ULTRA represents the uncompromising product character that pursues extreme performance. CF represents the frame material, carbon fiber. M29 represents the 29-inch mountain off-road tires, and TK.M09 represents the motor taken, which is a relatively unfamiliar motor.
Benefits Of A Carbon Mountain Bike
Lighter frame.
Lower density - makes for a smoother and more comfortable ride.
Carbon bikes absorb the shock and dampens vibration.
Stronger and more durable.
Stable material.
More responsive and stiffer which improves handling.
Each year World Cycling Day highlights one key aspect of the global cycling industry.
In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered daily life around the world. It also ushered in the biggest bicycle boom since the early 19th century. In 2021 we celebrated the Bike Renaissance; wow has the world changed for biking.
Theme for 2022 - The E-bike Revolution!
Each year the theme for World Cycling Day changes and this year there is no better topic than to celebrate the E-Bike Revolution! We strongly believe electric bikes (shortened to eBike or E-bike or e-Bike) are the future because over recent years the popularity of E-bikes has skyrocketed. According to Fortune Business Insights, the electric bike industry is worth about $18 billion worldwide with exponential growth throughout the decade.
Why E-Bikes?
While it's true that the first electric bike dates back to Japan in the 1980's it wasn't until recently that motor-powered bikes took off in the USA and around the world.
Why Celebrate the eBike?
1. Technological advances enable builders to create incredibly powerful, fast bikes that are lightweight, easy to use, and long-lasting.
2. Eco-friendly incentives for reducing the carbon footprint and cut emissions enable an E-bike to provide a viable alternative to the car.
3. A growing interest in fitness motivates people to take control of their health and wellness. E-bikes are a fun and engaging way to explore the great outdoors and get the heart pumping for extended periods of time.
This year, on World Cycling Day, we all celebrate our own reasons for loving E-bikes. Electric bikes appeal to an array of people from all different walks of life so get out there and celebrate World Cycling Day on August 11th (on or off an eBike).
